R & D

ATLANTIS Engineering has been constantly investing for fifteen years in research and development to exploit new technological opportunities and product development.

The Research & Development Department works with leading research centers and companies in Greece and Europe for addressing challenges in all areas of interest, such as holistic organization of maintenance, intelligent decision systems, the World Class Manufacturing, energy management, education and skills certification, etc.

The R&D Department is experienced in EU, national and privately funded projects, mainly in the field of maintenance and asset management, decision support systems, machine learning and artificial intelligence, as well as in e-learning and vocational training. We are distinguished for the high quality of services we provide.

Indicative projects

  1.  H2020 – SME Instrument Phase 1 (Coordinator) resulted in the Maintenance Decision Support System (mainDSS) product for the Maintenance and Asset Management sector that offers support towards the continuous improvement of the maintenance departments’ performance, regardless of the industrial sector and the plant size.


  1. H2020 – Composition (Partner) developed integrated information management system (IIMS) combining physical world, simulation, planning and forecasting data to enhance reconfigurability, scalability and optimisation of resources and processes inside the factory.


  2.  H2020 – Z-Fact0r (Technical Manager/Partner) providenew solutions addressing the zero-defect manufacturing (ZDM) requirements, bringing innovative products to the market, facing future challenges regarding standards and legislation.


  3. H2020 – Boost 4.0 (Partner) lead the construction of the European Industrial Data Space to improve the competitiveness of Industry 4.0 and guided the European manufacturing industry in the introduction of Big Data in the factory, providing the industrial sector with the necessary tools to obtain the maximum benefit of Big Data.


  1. H2020 – Z-Bre4k (Technical Manager/Partner) produced a novel predictive maintenance systems to eliminate unexpected-breakdowns and extend the life of production systems where three systems will be integrated as a cognitive predictive maintenance framework.


  2. H2020 – iQonic (Partner) is scalable zero defect manufacturing system covering the overall process chain of optoelectrical parts’ production that leverages IIoT and data-management platforms while orchestrating the process chain through eight (8) scalable strategies at component, work-station and shopfloor level.


  3. H2020 – SatisFactory (Partner) developed innovative techniques for fostering, productivity and planning work in the factories production lines, enhancing their flexibility by supporting employees’ interactions and worker satisfaction.


  4. H2020 – LEVEL-UP (Partner) develops Protocols and Strategies for extending the useful Life of major capital investments and Large Industrial Equipment offering a scalable platform covering the overall lifecycle, ranging from the digital twins setup, modernisation actions to diagnose and predict the operation of physical assets, to the refurbishment and remanufacturing activities towards end of life.


  5.  H2020 – DigiPrime (Partner) develops a new concept of Circular Economy digital platform overcoming current information asymmetry among value-chain stakeholders where increasement of circular business profitability includes the de- and remanufacturing Decision Support System (DSS) as a part of the operational service of the CE platform.


  6.  GSRT – WelCOM (Partner) offers methods, tools and services to facilitate the implementation of a Condition – Based Maintenance Strategy (CBM), by implementing Condition Monitoring (CM) via a flexible toolset of solutions based on Wireless Sensor Network platforms and Mobile Devices.


  7.  Erasmus Plus KA2 VET – FOSS4SMEs (Coordinator) developed a free online educational resource for managers and staff of European SMEs to equip them with the skills and competences to properly use Free and Open Source Software and improve their digital performances and competitiveness.


  8. GSRT–ECO-Building(Partner) Holistic approach to energy consumption in commercial buildings incorporating processes for physical asset management, installation works and business processes with usage patterns through intelligent decision support
  9. Erasmus Plus KA2 VET – FAME (Partner) developed an innovative training framework comprising a modular training course along with online and conventional training materials to help SMEs adopt advanced manufacturing techniques.


  10. H2020 – QU4LITY (Partner) demonstrates, in a realistic, measurable, and replicable way an open, certifiable and highly standardised, SME-friendly and transformative shared data-driven ZDM product and service model for Factory 4.0 through 5 strategic ZDM plug & control lighthouse equipment pilots and 9 production lighthouse facility pilots.


  11. GSRT – PREDICT (Partner) improves preventive maintenance on shop floors, using modern tools, techniques, embedded sensors, new sensors based on IoT and high-speed cameras for data collection where all sensor data is fed to machine learning algorithms which predict failures in recent time periods while a prediction fusion mechanism finds the best prediction to send to a DSS, which triggers the predictive maintenance procedures and timely notifies the end user.


  12.  GSRT – Q-CONPASS (Partner) will develop an autonomous intelligent system, enhanced with decision support, to monitor production lines with high differential products using low cost robotic vehicles equipped with sensors aiming to ensure the quality of the final product, while monitoring ergonomic characteristics and increasing safety at workplaces.


  13. Erasmus Plus KA2 – FINMAN (Partner) will develop a personal finance management program in the form of modular training courses to assist and support individuals acting and operating in a wide range of fields in developing competences, which can help them operate better with their finances, incomes, taxes, etc.


  14.  Erasmus Plus KA2 – ENGINE (Partner) will create a training course based on ICT and innovative solution to shape a new generation of leaders and support managers in adopting and implementing Cyber Security into European SMEs.


  15. Erasmus Plus KA2 – AgriCoopValue (Partner) will create favorable framework for the implementation of a unified system for agri-food cooperatives at EU level with aim to monitor social value and determine the multiplier capacity within its rural environments.


  16. Erasmus Plus VET – 1Point (Partner) will develop, transform, test, evaluate, improve and disseminate an innovative training framework comprising a new methodology along with an online training course, providing a learning motivation environment, skills and achievements framework, trainer guidelines as well as a validation and recognition plan.


  17.  Erasmus Plus KA2 SSA – DTAM (Partner) will design and deliver integral and innovative curriculum in key enabling technologies and transversal competences for training of EU technicities in order to re and up-skill their competences for the advanced manufacturing sector.


  18. Erasmus Plus KA2 VET – Q4EDU (Partner) aims to fill the gap of no existing framework to assess digital readiness at VET level where trainers and experts will be supported in acquiring assessment competences in digital education readiness, their further development, in actions promoting high-quality and innovative assessment in combination with the deployment and evaluation of digital tools.
  19.  Erasmus Plus KA2 – GEOLAND (Partner) aim is to engage Higher Education students in the process of making decisions on policies concerning landscape management, planning and protection of NATURA 2000 sites while introducing state-of-the-art technologies for Landscape monitoring that will the students will learn how to use geospatial technologies in educational landscape ecological services as well as understand the definition of Landscape Quality Objectives in higher education.


  20. Η2020 Open Call – XAI-FS (Partner): The Explainable AI (XAI) Fusion Service (FS) for Predictive Maintenance (XAI-FS) is the sub-project for the development of digital manufacturing application and service for the EFPF platform (https://efpf-portal.ascora.eu/). The aim of the project is to design and implement a solution that combines detection and prediction maintenance models within an intelligent fusion engine in order to achieve more accurate fault prediction/detection outputs and to improve the understandability of operators on AI-based predictive maintenance solutions.
